Resumen: 

El gaitiru y el tamboritiru son dos figuras indispensables en la cultura musical asturiana. No hay fiesta que no los incluya en sus actos, de ahí que pongamos especial atención en sus instrumentos, instrumentistas, constructores y en su actividad musical por el Concejo
de Lena. Este estudio se apoya en la información recogida en el trabajo de campo iniciado en 1990-95, retomado en la actualidad, para conocer los nombres y particularidades locales, puesto que la factura y la evolución de los instrumentos populares suele estar estrechamente ligada al medio donde se desarrolla la vida cotidiana. En la actualidad, la figura tradicional del gaitero y tamboritero es complementada por las bandas de gaitas y nuevos grupos que buscan fusiones con otros
estilos; y el patrimonio musical en torno a la gaita se transmite a las nuevas generaciones a través de la Escuela Municipal de Música.

Abstract:

The gaitiru (bagpiper) and the tamboritiru (drummer) are two indispensable figures in Asturian musical culture. There is no popular festival without them, hence special attention is paid to their instruments, instrumentalists, bagpipe makers and their musical activity by the Council of Lena. This research is based on the information gathered in the fieldwork begun in 1990-95, which has now been taken up, in order to know the local names and particularities, since the characteristics and the evolution of popular instruments are often closely linked to the environment where everyday life develops. Nowadays, the traditional figure of the bagpiper and the drummer is complemented by pipe bands and new groups that seek to merge with other styles; and the cultural heritage around the bagpipe is transmitted to the new generations through the Municipal School of Music.
