Abstract:
The development of any outdoor activity involves coming into direct contact with many different species of plants and animals. Most of them are harmless, but many others are equipped with extraordinary defense or attack mechanisms with enough capacity to inflict damage on people. The largest percentage of cases are simple superficial affections of little importance, such as stings, hives, swelling, irritation, etc., of which there is not even awareness at the time of contact, nor able to identify the responsible. Others, however, can trigger serious illnesses, with deadly consequences. This type of injuries, produced in the epidermis and unknown cause, have a very specific name in Asturian language: gafures. Within the anonymity of the abundant flora and fauna found in Lena, those organisms that have this harmful capacity can be clearly identified.
