Resumen: 

El crecimiento industrial, económico y demográfico de Asturias desde principios del siglo xx encontró el escollo de una escasa y deficiente oferta educativa pública. En La Pola, el aumento de población en edad escolar impulsó la creación de diversos establecimientos por iniciativa privada, muchos de ellos regidos por congregaciones religiosas, con dispar relevancia y estabilidad en el tiempo. Este trabajo pretende documentar la trayectoria de los distintos centros educativos en La Pola durante la primera mitad del siglo XX, tanto públicos como privados: la Escuela Pública Unitaria de Niños y Niñas, la escuela particular de Teresa Melchora, la Academia San Martín, el Colegio San Martín de los Hermanos Maristas, el Colegio
Nôtre Dame, el Colegio Sagrada Familia de Urgel, las Escuelas Graduadas, la Academia de don Ricardo y la Escuela pública de párvulos de D.ª Elvira.

Abstract:

The industrial, economic and demographic growth of Asturias since the beginning of the 20th century was hindered by the scarce and deficient public educational offer. In La Pola (Lena), the increase in the school-age population prompted the creation of several establishments by private initiative, many of them run by religious congregations, with different relevance and stability over time. This work aims to document the trajectory of the different educational centers in La Pola during the first half of the 20th century, both public and private: the Unitary Public School for boys and girls, the private school of Teresa Melchora, the San Martín Academy, the San Martín School of the Marist Brothers, the Nôtre Dame School, the Sagrada Familia de Urgel School, the Graduate Schools, the Academy, and the D.ª Elvira public nursery school.
