Una lápida funeraria del siglo I d. C., descubierta cerca de Bonn (Alemania), representa a un militar llamado Pintaius, ataviado con los atributos propios de un signifer. El epitafio revela su origen astur transmontano, del castelo (castro) de Intercatia, que podría corresponderse con la capital de la tribu de los orniacos, en el valle del
Güerna (Lena). Murió en Germania tras siete años de servicio en la Cohors V Asturum. En este artículo se revisa la información disponible sobre Pintaius, acudiendo a diversas fuentes y recurriendo al análisis epigráfico y a la interpretación iconográfica de su estela para esbozar un
perfil biográfico del guerrero y reconstruir su trayectoria militar. Con ello, se pretende divulgar la relevancia de la estela como valiosa representación iconográfica de un signifer y como testimonio de la incorporación de guerreros astures al ejército romano. Además, la figura
de Pintaius inspira un proyecto de investigación y valorización de los enclaves castreños de Lena.

Abstract:

A funerary stele from the 1st century AD, discovered near Bonn (Germany), depicts a soldier named Pintaius, shown wearing the distinctive attributes of a signifer. The epitaph reveals his origin as an Astur Transmontanus, from the castelo (hillfort) of Intercatia, which may correspond to the capital of the Orniaci tribe, located in the Güerna Valley (Lena). He died in Germania after seven years of service in the Cohors V Asturum. This article reviews the available information on Pintaius, drawing on a range of sources and combining epigraphic analysis with iconographic interpretation of his stele in order to outline a biographical profile of the warrior and reconstruct his military career. The aim is to highlight the significance of the stele both as a valuable iconographic representation of a signifer and as evidence of the incorporation of Astur warriors into the Roman army. In addition, the figure of Pintaius has inspired a research and outreach project focused on the study and valorisation of the hillfort sites of Lena.
